BIOL 189 is a comprehensive survey course that introduces students to many facets of biology as it prepares them for future courses in health sciences. The topics covered during this semester-long course include: a discussion of the diversity of life; the chemistry essential for biology; cellular structures, functions and processes; an introduction to genetics, inheritance and human genetic diseases; and an introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the human body. Biology 189 is one of the prerequisites for Biol 223 (A&P 1), Biol 224 (A&P 2) and Biol 251 (Microbiology).
Recommended: MATH 120 or higher.
